Sandra Jackson is dead. Black Love is named the only beneficiary.

Only problem: he has no idea who Sandra Jackson is, or why she left him anything.

Then he learns the money comes with a catch. To keep it, he has to investigate her murder.

Black turns it down flat. He wants nothing to do with Sandra’s polished Black bourgeois world of political ambition, megachurch power, and socialite respectability. He sends the money back and walks away clean.

Then Cook County State’s Attorney Veronica Malone shows up at his office and calls in a favor.

Feeling obligated, Black takes the case.

Sandra was the daughter of a powerful Chicago politician and megachurch pastor rising fast through The Consecrated—a sleek, fast-growing religious movement built on old Black church legacy, young Black conservative cool, and the public image of discipline, purity, and power. Behind the branding, though, is a closed inner circle where loyalty is tested, secrets are traded, and ambition is rewarded through compromise.

Sandra had become a mole inside that world. She believed The Consecrated was responsible for her mother’s death years earlier. Before she could expose it, she was killed.

To solve Sandra’s murder, Black must move through megachurch influence, political ambition, ritualized loyalty, and a system that turns shame into leverage and faith into control.

Standing in his way is Rolanda Rameau, the third-generation head of the Covenant Counsel Alliance, the legal machine built to protect the churches behind The Consecrated at any cost. Cold, brilliant, and bred for the role, Rolanda knows exactly what Sandra uncovered—and exactly how dangerous Black can become if he gets too close to the truth.

The deeper he digs, the clearer it becomes: Sandra wasn’t the first person this machine chewed up.

She may be the one who finally forces it into the light.
